A radio programme changed my life
By Fabián Armijos | Ecuador in South America
"I started listening to Radio 'Waves of Hope' ten years ago because of recommendations from friends and family," says Klever, a 43-year-old merchant from Loja, Ecuador. "They insisted that certain programmes can help you change your life."
Klever, a husband and father of two, says that the programmes about family relationships have helped him a lot. When he and his wife struggled with marriage issues, he began searching for help in all the wrong places. "But right at that time, I started listening to a radio programme called 'Crusade' with [world famous evangelist] Luis Palau. 'Crusade' offered biblical teaching about everyday problems. The programme left me thinking about how we as parents should be guides for our children — and all the teaching was Bible-based. After that I began reading the Bible myself, and really, it was all there, exactly as the speaker taught."
Since then, Klever has continued to tune into the radio programme every day, excited to learn more and to see how God can transform his life.
Besides the biblical messages, Klever also loves the music on "Waves of Hope," which is different from what he listened to before. The songs about the love of God and life in community with family and neighbors speak deeply to his heart.
However, there's one problem with station: the lack of FM frequency. For a while now, the radio station has only been available on AM frequencies or online. For that reason, Klever bought an old radio specifically to tune into AM stations--just to hear the teachings. "With that old radio, I can hear the Christian programmes," says Klever. "But other people can't if they don't have an AM receiver or access to the Internet. I hope the radio station will once again be broadcast in FM to reach many more people with those programmes."
Klever now attends a local church in Loja with his whole family, where he continues to grow in the ways of the Lord.
Loja is dotted with remote villages that are difficult to access. Radio is a wonderful tool to share the most important message: the hope we have through Jesus's sacrifice on the cross. Radio "Waves of Hope" transmits quality programming with biblical principles in order to strengthen families and share the gospel in Southern Ecuador. We hope to be on air on FM again soon to reach more people for Christ in the mountainous province of Loja.
Klever encourages radio staff to keep moving forward, overcoming obstacles, and remember that they're doing a great ministry for the community. Radio "Waves of hope" has been a huge blessing to Klever, and many people have been changed and restored by coming to know Christ through radio.
Pray for:
• radio listeners like Klever can continue to tune in to Christian programming in the current medium.
• the station to return to FM frequency soon, and for the government to ease restrictions and regulations.
• volunteers to help with local programmes.
• financial support to keep this radio ministry project on the air.
