Waves of Hope flood Loja on FM radio once more
By Fabian Armijos | Ecuador in South America

After five years of silence, Waves of Hope radio is now back on 94.1 FM radio in Ecuador’s Loja province. Several of us on the SIM Ecuador ministry team witnessed the change in the antennae on the mountains of Loja and the technician yell, “We are on the air!” We immediately ran to turn on the car radio and rejoiced when we heard the station.
We had been waiting for the radio frequency to be returned after a misunderstanding, but we sensed the hand of God guide us at every moment through those years. Although we were not on the air through FM radio for some time, Waves of Hope continued its ministry on 1340 AM. Later, we began to transmit over the internet and an application for mobile devices. We finally returned the AM frequency to the Government to concentrate all our effort into FM and an evangelism strategy in the rural area of Loja.
In the meantime, we made plans by faith to extend coverage to reach the province of Loja, where the gospel had not yet been preached. It seemed like an almost unattainable goal. However, the resources began to arrive, and the dream continued to grow!
We never thought that we would receive the good news from the government to sign the papers during the pandemic. It was an exciting event for the entire SIM Ecuador team! We began working immediately on the paperwork, payments, promotion, purchase of equipment, and construction of a 40-meter antenna tower.
After about two months of work, the main tower for Loja is now installed and ready. But we still need to build two repeater towers to reach the most remote places in the city and have one year to complete the work in compliance with government regulations.
We have already received a warm reception from the listeners, who are very pleased to listen to programming that brings hope to families, biblical teaching on finances and stewardship, gospel-inspired music, devotions, and sound wisdom in the local media. Now, we ask God for wisdom to share edifying content for families in this region of the country and beyond through the radio’s website, social media networks, and mobile apps.
Pray for:
• God to provide spiritual and physical strength to the radio team and guide them in the work he has entrusted for this part of the world.
• the installation of equipment to go smoothly and for financial support to maintain the ministry.
• volunteers at local programmes to create new radio content that glorifies God.
