'Upper Zoom': SIM workers gather online to pray

On the  very first ascension day, Jesus’ followers went straight from the mountain into their upper room to pray together. This ascension day, SIM workers from around the world did the same – not in a room, but on Zoom.

Thanks to video call technology, more than 60 workers from Africa, Australia, Canada, South America, Asia, Europe, the US and beyond were able to gather together as SIM began 10 days of corporate prayer.

It was one of several moments of united prayer themed around the identity of the triune God of the Bible as ‘I Am’ – the name God uses when revealing His identity to Moses in the Old Testament book of Exodus.

After all the participants had time to greet one another, Hyon Kim – SIM’s Global Director of People Development – beautifully led the time of prayer.

Having read three times the account of Moses’ encounter with the living God of his forefathers (Exodus 3:13-15), Hyon encouraged those gathered to ‘unmute’ in turn as they wished and speak out loud about God’s name and all the things it signifies – His existence right now in the present, His eternal nature, His constancy.

The meeting was then split into smaller groups so that participants could pray for one another, their  communities and the nations of the world.

The following prayer was given as a suggested starting point:

“Today, we pray for communities in our country of service that have yet to hear of You as I AM and for those communities who are still resistant to humbly acknowledging You as I AM. We want them to know You as the self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, and sovereign One who loves them and wants to reveal Yourself to them.”

It was a very special time of prayer, and one which is being replicated daily in similar online gatherings across the world in English, French and Spanish.

Why? Because SIM is confident that the mission God has called His people to is only achieved by prayer.

Pray

•Thank God for the technology that allows people across the world to gather together and pray.

•Thank God that He is always present, close and available for us.

•Ask God that a community close to your heart might know Him as the self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, and sovereign One who loves them.
