Sports Friends Kenya

Kenyan church leaders are seeking new and creative strategies to relate to youth. Sport creates an environment for building relationship, which leads to opportunities to share the love of Christ with the youth and their families. Sports Friends Kenya seeks to disciple, train and equip church leaders, missionaries, and church planters to use sports as an avenue for evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. Sports Friends Kenya envisions developed, ongoing and sustainable sports ministry programs fully managed and funded by the local churches. Missional Young People

Kenya is a very youthful country. The median age is estimated at 19, and about 80 per cent of Kenya’s population is below 35. The church in Kenya is strong but is losing young people between the ages of childhood and adulthood. There are few ministries engaging the children and youth and children. Some ministry teams of SIM Kenya have incorporated programmes focused on children and youth into their ministry activities. Missional Young People will engage the Kenyan Church Leaders to disciple children and youth in their churches and communities. If you have experience in youth ministry or leading youth outreach events, we would love to hear from you.

Borana Outreach

The Borana are a large tribe in northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. They live in small, scattered communities. They are historically nomadic cattle herders, but some communities have settled in semi-agricultural areas. In addition to keeping small flocks of cattle, goats, and sheep, they are involved in subsistence farming. Most of the Borana are unreached and closed to the gospel, whereas radical Islam is making inroads into the Borana-speaking communities. Mission workers have been accepted into these communities and good ministry relationships have been built. We need a vibrant and multi-skilled ministry team to serve the Borana-speaking communities in northern Kenya.

Bolivia’s Youth and Children

Childhood is when people usually choose to become Jesus followers. It is a time of formation and decision-making, yet a time of vulnerability for potential abuse and harm. Minors need safe spaces and safe people to nurture and guide them in life. More than 50 per cent of Bolivia’s population is aged 25 or younger, so ministry focused toward children and youth presents a tremendous opportunity to develop life-long disciples of Christ. The Bolivian church has asked SIM for workers to partner with them to build leadership capacity in children and youth ministries. SIM is seeking workers to be involved in Bible clubs, puppet ministry, camping, sports, after-school tutoring, youth mentoring, big brother/big sister relationships, Young Life, university ministry, church or community-based youth groups.

The Shoe Shiners of La Paz

Kayuparu means 'at his feet', and is a ministry that is reaching out to the masked shoe shiners of La Paz. The shiners hide their faces behind masks because there is a strong sense of shame associated with being a shiner. In the eyes of society, they are invisible and insignificant. A lot of them are students who need the work to pay for their tuition, others are facing economic hardships. Our desire is for them to realise they are not insignificant and invisible in the eyes of God, and that they find hope in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Join our team to reach out to the shoe shiners and their families!
