Pakistán

By faith we look to God:

  • to see strong Punjabi and other ethnic churches actively established and sacrificially involved in missions within Pakistan and beyond.
  • to partner with these churches to see equally strong churches established amongst peoples with the Gospel.
  • to encourage and support Christian educators in raising educational standards for children and young people.
  • to see poor and marginalised families better integrated into society.
  • to enable ethnic groups to receive education and medical assistance.
  • to see workers from newer sending contexts become established in effective ministry in Pakistan.

Communities where He is least known

Quetta Hazara

The Hazara are likely of Mongol descent. They are mainly Shia Muslims, and in recent years communities in Quetta have suffered greatly from terrorist attacks. They are hardworking and place a great emphasis on education. They tend to be open to the Gospel, and some have come to faith. Some Pakistani Christians also desire to reach out to this community. It has been increasingly difficult for SIM to visit and to work in the sensitive areas where they live.

Marwari Bhil and Mengwal

These communities live over a wide geographical area in southern Pakistan. As they are predominately Hindus, they have a low social standing within society. Literacy is low, and they are mainly subsistence farmers working for Muslim landlords. They have limited access to education, health facilities and clean water. SIM Pakistan has been working with these two communities of people since the 1960s. In the last eight years, the team has seen significant fruit, with many small house churches coming into existence. The challenge is to train leaders for these fellowships and to see them reaching out to neighbouring areas where there is no Gospel.
