SIM South Sudan

Our multi-cultural SIM South Sudan is based in Nairobi, Kenya but serves the refugee communities in South Sudan by partnering with the local church, by doing medical ministry and by discipling members of the community.

Key Ministries

  • Bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to refugees who have never heard and discipling them to share the same in their communities.
  • Equipping church leaders to disciple others to see churches grow and reproduce.
  • Through medicine, trauma healing and health education, we will meet physical needs and be afforded the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • Empowering and educating community members to be strong servants to their families, churches and others.
  • Leadership and administrative services.

Spiritual Landscape in South Sudan

There is a significant Christian population in South Sudan, with more than 60 per cent of the population identifying as followers of Jesus. Most of the rest are followers of traditional religion, but there is a small Muslim population too. However, there has been a significant influx of refugees from conflicts in the region and few of them have any knowledge of Jesus.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

The sick

As a primary provider of health services, we offer members of our communities the opportunity to receive compassionate and holistic medical care.  As a faith-based organisation, through the care that we provide, we earn the right to share the gospel and to pray with those receiving our services.  In addition, our health workers go into the communities we serve to help ensure that people know and understand what it is to practice self-care.

Beyond borders

Due to the many years of conflict and instability in this region, the diverse refugee communities have suffered tremendously.  As a result of renewed conflict in Sudan, many new refugees have come into the area of South Sudan we serve. This has led to new challenges but also additional opportunities. The current situation provides greater opportunities for our teams to share the good news of Jesus Christ through compassionate medical care as well as discipleship. Our prayer is that God will work through our teams to draw many to him.

Please pray

  • For the peace of God to be known in South Sudan and Sudan
  • For God’s word to be proclaimed across the region we serve and for many to come to know Jesus as Saviour and Lord of their lives
  • For growth within the local churches and for them to send workers into God’s harvest field
  • For an increased desire within the local church to know and experience God
  • For God’s provision for our various ministries
  • For spiritual as well as physical healing for those affected by ongoing conflict and social unrest
  • For our team to not grow weary in doing good and that they would experience God’s presence in a new and exciting way
  • For those who have committed their lives to Christ to know his love like never before
  • For an end to the conflict in Sudan and for the people of Upper Nile State to live in peace and harmony with one another
