SIM Namibia

We have a small team in Namibia, which is seeking to work with the local church to disciple believers and encourage a greater understanding of their place in God’s global mission.

Key Ministries

  • Training Christian leaders
We help equip church leaders to disciple their congregations through formal theological education, informal workshops and seminars, as well as the African Strategic Discipleship Movement (ASDM) programme.
  • Mobilisation
We aim to see the Namibian church joining God’s global mission force, so we help train and equip local churches to be mission-minded and come alongside them to help send out global mission workers.
  • Children and youth
We desire to see the next generations of Namibians becoming passionate, maturing disciples of Christ. Through this ministry we have teachers placed in schools, which is a strategic opportunity for reaching children and youth. We also partner with various church and community children’s and youth ministries.

Spiritual Landscape in Namibia

Christianity was introduced by Western mission workers in the mid-nineteenth century, into a country in which most people followed traditional African religions.

It has since expanded broadly and 90 per cent of Namibians claim to be Christian. However, much of that so-called “Christianity” is either nominal, syncretistic, or just plain false teaching. The Joshua Project estimates that only abouit 12 per cent of Namibians are evangelical, Bible-believing followers of Jesus.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

The youth of Namibia have been largely influenced by the secular philosophies of the West and are becoming increasingly secularised. Additionally, some of the least engaged groups in Namibia include the San (Bushmen) communities, Himba and Zemba communities, and various smaller rural tribes along the northern rivers.

Please pray

  • For God to send more workers to Namibia
  • For our team as we look into new areas of outreach, especially in Muslim work
  • For the churches in Namibia to hear God’s calling to mission, both inside and outside the country
  • For pastors and other church workers to share what they have learned through the Pastors’ Book Set conferences effectively
