SIM Liberia

SIM Liberia’s multi-cultural team is based in the capital,  Monrovia, and has a vision to take the gospel to communities in the country who do not know Jesus. SIM runs a hospital, a school, a radio station and a Bible college in the country.

Key Ministries

  • Equipping and training leaders in SIM partner churches.
  • Pastoral and theological education.
  • Manya language Bible translation and outreach.
  • ELWA (Eternal Love Winning Africa) Radio.
  • ELWA Hospital.
  • Trinity Dental Clinic.
  • ELWA Academy (850 Liberian students from pre-school to grade 12).

Spiritual Landscape in Liberia

Liberia is a nominally Christian country but churches often struggle to find leaders who preach the Bible faithfully. There are also Islamic and animistic people groups in parts of the country.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

The Manya

Living in the forested north west region of Liberia, the Manya people are part of the Malinke people whose history dates to the Malian Empire. Today they practise a mix of African traditional religion and Islam. For the most part they are farmers, though many also make a living as mechanics and merchants. The majority of Manya people are living and dying without Christ. Praise God that the Bible is being translated into their language!

Please pray

  • For our mission family working on Bible translation and reaching out to Manya neighbours through health care
  • For more workers among the Manya people. Pray that God will call Liberian Christians as mission workers to people in remote areas, including among the Manya
  • For a strong church to be established among the Manya
  • For our SIM Liberia Administrative and Services Team. Working behind the scenes, they ensure that our personnel are cared for and that our campus is kept running well. They carry heavy and essential roles
  • that Liberian church leaders will be equipped to discern and dispute false teaching
