SIM Ecuador

Our team in Ecuador is primarily focussed on sharing the gospel with the rural population, in the southern province of Loja, where a mixture of Catholicism and indigenous animism is often practised.

Key Ministries

  • Planting and strengthening rural churches
We would love to welcome people who can help plant and nurture churches in the least-reached, rural areas of the Loja province. We engage each community by serving needs in relationship-building ways to open opportunities to share the gospel and disciple new believers to maturity. By faith, we see a church-planting movement which reproduces communities of Jesus followers in these communities.
  • Training church leaders and discipleship
By faith, we seek to train Christians to be leaders in their local church and to share and live out their Christian faith so they can in turn train the church effectively to fulfil the Great Commission.
  • Radio Waves of Hope
Through the transmission of quality programming founded on Biblical principles into places that are hard to access in the rural province of southern Ecuador, we pray to see families transformed by the gospel and connected with local communities of faith where they can live out their faith.
  • Compassion ministry of Ecuador
By faith we seek to accompany and empower churches to reach out to their communities, recognising and addressing the needs of the most vulnerable, using their God-given resources, crossing over social, economic, and cultural barriers to be an agent for transformation in people, families, and communities for now and eternity. We use resources that include a Biblical worldview and Biblical teaching, treating the person as a whole, and are careful to avoid creating dependence and paternalism.
  • Mobilising and sending
Ecuadorian churches and believers will understand and find their role in missions, leading to Ecuadorians being equipped for ministry and sent out to least reached communities world-wide under quality administration and pastoral care.
  • Leadership and services
By faith, we see our workers and their ministries flourishing, working in teams which are given excellent member care and administrative support. We are looking for administrative help in our Ecuador office, to join the director and others better support SIM workers.

Spiritual Landscape in Ecuador

SIM works in Loja in the majestic Andes mountains in southern Ecuador. 90 per cent of this mestizo population adhere to a syncretism of tradition, idol worship, and Catholic rituals; less than three per cent are believers. Those who are believers are susceptible to be deceived by sects teaching false doctrine due to a superficial knowledge of the Bible. There is a trend in the younger generations to leave their traditional spiritual heritage.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

The least-reached province of Ecuador is Loja and is where the SIM Ecuador team works. Loja is situated in the southernmost part of the country bordering Peru. The Planting and Strengthening Rural Churches team works in remote locations across Loja province to evangelise, disciple and establish self-sustaining churches that reach their communities with the good news. We aim to use reproducible and easily accessible methods for discipleship, to raise up local believers as disciple-makers so that we will see a movement of Ecuadorians reaching Ecuadorians with the truth of Jesus Christ.

Our workers serve among a variety of belief systems including staunch folk Catholicism, Incan animism, and New Age practices. We strive to build unity among the churches and help these believers develop a vision for how God can use them to reach their community, despite rejection and opposition.

Please pray

  • For Radio Hope to receive government approval for its FM frequency and to broadcast gospel messages that would have an impact throughout the province.
  • For our compassion ministry to effectively open doors to new communities through tangible expressions of Christ’s love.
  • For our equipping leadership ministries to develop stable, maturing leaders, especially in rural communities, through training programmes and ongoing discipleship.
  • For more teachers for our study centre.
