SIM East Asia

Our East Asia team envisions churches in East Asia being discipled, equipped, motivated and mobilised to send workers to reach those who are living and dying without hearing God’s good news. They want to see our workers raising disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in communities where he is least known, producing missional churches which would, in turn, send workers to other parts of the world where there is no gospel presence.

Key Ministries

  • Serving churches and being a blessing to them so that they can be a blessing to God’s mission.
  • Mobilisation of, and partnering with, seminaries, churches and individuals to send members into global mission.
  • Serving East Asia offices and involving them more in candidate selection, screening and sending.
  • Conducting cross-cultural training and orientation for worker candidates.
  • Providing administrative services, supervising and developing receiving contexts.
  • Handling of crisis management and contingency planning.
  • Caring for children of cross-cultural workers and providing pastoral care and prayer support for workers.

Spiritual Landscape in East Asia

East Asian societies are diverse in their religious beliefs, with a significant portion of the population identifying as religiously unaffiliated or Buddhist. Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world, while there are many Buddhists across the region. Other prominent religions include Christianity, especially in Korea and Hong Kong, and Taoism in Taiwan.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

Diaspora communities
Diaspora ministries are gaining significance as more and more Asian (Indonesian, Chinese, Indian) diaspora communities and international students are moving in huge numbers to East Asia and other parts of the world. They are a rich harvest field on the doorstep, and we have a great opportunity to share the love of Christ with them. SIM East Asia is strategising to reach out to these communities with the gospel of Christ, along with partnering churches and like-minded organisations.
