Key Ministries
- Discipleship
SIM Mali is committed to nurturing the faith of Malian believers through intentional discipleship. By helping followers of Jesus grow in their knowledge and obedience to Him, the ministry also encourages them to share the gospel with others, particularly among those who have never heard it.
- Relief ministry
This ministry seeks to demonstrate the compassion of Christ by responding to urgent and emergency needs. Through funding and practical aid, SIM Mali supports vulnerable individuals and communities, alleviating suffering and offering hope during times of hardship.
- Church planting among the Moors
Focused on reaching the Moor communities in south western Mali, this ministry combines everyday friendship and service with the intentional sharing of the gospel. Workers live and serve among the Moors, using their skills to build trust and introduce people to the transforming love of Christ.
- Health ministry
Many rural Malians lack access to even basic healthcare. SIM Mali supports efforts to provide medical services in underserved communities, offering both short- and long-term opportunities for healthcare professionals to serve and share Christ’s love.
- Education and language learning
SIM Mali offers language learning opportunities, especially in French, for workers preparing to serve in Francophone countries. There are also roles for English teachers, children’s workers and others interested in using education as a platform for mission.
Spiritual Landscape in Mali
Mali is a West African country with deep Islamic roots, where roughly 90 per cent of the population are Muslim. Christianity accounts for around four per cent of the population, while indigenous beliefs are practised by about six per cent. Although Christian missionaries first arrived in the 19th century, more significant church growth began after World War II.
Today, Mali’s spiritual landscape includes a small but active Christian community, often facing pressure or isolation. Literacy rates remain relatively low, especially outside urban areas. French and Bambara are the main languages used in communication and outreach.
Despite the challenges, God is at work, and opportunities remain to share the good news of Jesus, especially among unreached ethnic groups and in rural communities.
