SIM Australia

SIM Australia partners with Australian churches to equip and send out cross-cultural mission workers to serve both in Australia and overseas, focussing on communities where Jesus is least known.

Key Ministries

  • Global and local mission partnership
SIM Australia partners with local churches to send out cross-cultural gospel workers, equipping individuals with a variety of skills to serve in a wide range of ministries. These workers serve in both global and Australian contexts, united by a passion to see Christ proclaimed where He is least known.
  • Mobilising and equipping workers
Through the Across ministry, SIM Australia mobilises and equips mission workers to reach the least-reached, including in their own neighbourhoods. Whether through training, mentoring, or resources, SIM Australia prepares workers for effective, context-sensitive mission.
  • Church engagement and mission advocacy
SIM Australia works to inspire and support local churches in fulfilling their role in God’s mission. This includes running events, speaking engagements, and personalised partnerships to help churches engage in both local and global mission efforts.
  • Support services for mission
As stewards of God’s resources, SIM Australia provides efficient support systems for mission workers, donors, prayer partners, and churches. These services include finance, administration, member care, and communications, enabling others to thrive in their mission calling.
  • Encouraging wider involvement
SIM Australia actively promotes ways for individuals and churches to play their part in global mission, whether through prayer, financial giving, or short- and long-term ministry opportunities.

Spiritual Landscape in Australia

Australia, historically influenced by Christianity and committed to religious freedom, is now marked by growing secularism. While 52.1 per cent of the population still identify as Christian in some way, regular church attendance has dropped to around 8 per cent. An individualistic and relativistic spirituality has become dominant, with many Australians exploring personalised beliefs outside of organised religion.

Public attitudes towards Christianity are often shaped by media portrayals that criticise the church for perceived intolerance or irrelevance. Yet, amid the secular shift, there remains openness — particularly among young people and new migrants — to spiritual conversations and authentic expressions of faith.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

Immigrants, refugees and international students

Australia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, with nearly a third of its population born overseas and more than half a million international students arriving annually. Many of these people come from places where the gospel is not known or accessible.

SIM Australia’s Across ministry seeks to reach these communities within Australia, sharing Christ with those who may never have encountered the gospel in their home countries. Workers engage through hospitality, language classes, university outreach, and community support, offering both friendship and the hope of Christ.

Please pray

  • For SIM Australia’s mission workers to follow Jesus closely and know his empowering to be effective and fruitful in their ministry
  • That we might challenge Australian believers to discover the part they can play in God’s mission
  • For partnering and equipping churches to minister to cross-cultural communities around them and to see mission as central to church ministry
  • For the Lord of the harvest to raise up more churches and workers in communities where Christ is least known, both overseas and locally through Across
  • For our Home Ministry Team as we connect with those who go, and provide services and resources to prepare and send them well
