SIM Taiwan

The SIM Taiwan team both sends and receives mission workers and is seeking to build still deeper relationships with local evangelical churches so they can be more effective in cross-cultural mission.

Key Ministries

Mobilising and Sending
SIM Taiwan mobilises churches and individuals for mission, equipping and sending workers to serve where Christ is least known. We work in partnership with local churches to encourage mission vision and active participation.

Reaching the Margins
We also welcome and equip mission workers to serve in Taiwan, focusing on three key groups: migrant workers, international students, and elderly people in rural areas. These are often overlooked communities, yet they are open to friendship, support and the message of Christ.

Spiritual Landscape in Taiwan

Taiwan is a culturally rich and religiously diverse society, where traditional beliefs dominate. The majority of the population practise folk Buddhism, often blended with Taoism and ancestral worship.

Christian Population
Christians make up approximately five per cent of the population. Urban churches are generally more vibrant and active in evangelism, while rural areas often remain spiritually dry and unreached.  The church is growing steadily in urban centres and there is a growing awareness and concern for unreached people groups within Taiwan. However, rural churches are often in need of revitalisation and fresh gospel engagement.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

Migrant Workers
More than one million migrant workers live and work in Taiwan, often isolated from mainstream society and far from gospel access.

International Students
With more than 100,000 international students from across Asia and beyond, Taiwan presents a unique opportunity to reach future leaders for Christ.

Rural Elderly People
Many elderly residents in rural communities live in loneliness and poverty. The church has a powerful opportunity to bring both comfort and eternal hope through relational ministry and care.

Please pray

  • For more workers from Taiwan who are after God’s heart and will go to least-reached
people groups to make disciples for the Lord
  • For open doors for connecting with churches and organisations in Taiwan to partner in
serving migrant workers, international students and elderly people in rural areas
  • For suitable workers who can witness Christ to the unreached people groups in Taiwan
