SIM Australia

SIM Australia partners with local Australian churches in equipping and sending out cross-cultural mission workers, to serve both overseas and in Australia, focusing on communities where Christ is least known.

Key Ministries

Global and local mission partnership

SIM Australia partners with local Australian churches, in equipping and sending out cross-cultural gospel workers, with a variety of skills and talents, to serve in a diverse range of ministries. These workers serve in both global and Australian contexts, united by a passion to see Christ proclaimed where He is least known.

Mobilising and equipping workers

SIM Australia mobilises and equips mission workers to reach the least-reached. Whether through training, mentoring, or resources, SIM Australia prepares workers for effective, context-sensitive mission.

Church engagement and mission advocacy

SIM Australia works to inspire and support local churches in fulfilling their role in God’s mission. This includes running events, speaking engagements, and personalised partnerships to help churches engage in both local and global mission efforts.

Support services for mission

As stewards of God’s resources, SIM Australia provides efficient support systems for mission workers, donors, prayer partners, and churches. These services include finance, administration, member care, and communications, enabling others to thrive in their mission calling.

Encouraging Australians to participate in global mission

SIM Australia actively promotes ways for individuals and churches to play their part in global mission, whether through prayer, financial giving, or short and long-term ministry opportunities.

Spiritual Landscape in Australia

Increasingly secular society

Australia has a historic Christian heritage and upholds freedom of religion, yet it is becoming increasingly secular. Many identify as spiritual but not religious, often shaped by individualistic or New Age influences. While over 40% of Australians identify as Christian, fewer than 8% attend church regularly. Public perceptions of the church are also shifting, with growing scepticism, particularly regarding authority and perceived intolerance. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity for authentic, culturally relevant witness.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

Diaspora Communities

Australia is one of the world’s most culturally diverse nations, with around 32% of the population (8.8 million people) born overseas. Many come from least–reached contexts with little or no prior exposure to the gospel. These populations present significant opportunities for cross-cultural engagement.

In response, SIM Australia engages churches and diaspora communities through intentional cross-cultural ministry.

Across is a ministry initiative committed to cross-cultural outreach among diaspora communities, especially those from least-reached backgrounds across Australia. It seeks to see lives transformed among these communities, increased church engagement in cross-cultural mission, and workers equipped to share the gospel faithfully and effectively across cultures.

  • Across to engage more Australian churches in cross-cultural mission, and for team members to minister effectively among diaspora communities and beyond
  • Churches to be equipped for cross-cultural ministry and embrace mission as central
  • Our Home Ministry Team to share a clear and unified vision as they support, prepare and care for workers well
