SIM Senegal

SIM Senegal’s multi-cultural team has a vision to see Wolof speakers in the country come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour.

Key Ministries

  • English teaching
SIM runs a centre that attracts around 120 students, most of whom have never heard the Christian message. Alongside high-quality English instruction, students are invited to engage with the gospel through conversations, events and study groups.
  • Training centre
Through a vocational training centre, SIM equips local people with practical skills and qualifications to help them start businesses or gain employment. The centre also serves as a platform for sharing the good news of Jesus in both word and deed.
  • Health ministries
SIM partners with various Christian clinics to provide compassionate medical care. These ministries demonstrate Christ’s love and offer spiritual hope to patients and their families.
  • Media ministries
SIM develops digital tools and resources to reach Senegalese people through social media platforms. This includes creating Scripture content in local languages and producing culturally relevant gospel media.
  • MK education
SIM supports local Christian schools to ensure that mission families have access to quality education for their children, enabling them to thrive academically, spiritually and socially.

Spiritual Landscape in Senegal

Senegal is a predominantly Muslim country, with approximately 95 per cent of the population identifying as Muslim. Despite this, the nation maintains a secular constitution and allows freedom of religion.

There is a small but active evangelical Christian community, alongside a more established Catholic presence. While the overall number of Christians remains low, the church continues to witness with faith and resilience in a largely Islamic cultural context.

Communities Where Christ is Least Known

The vast majority of Senegal’s 18 million people have little or no meaningful contact with Christians or exposure to the gospel. Most live in contexts where Christianity is unfamiliar, and access to Scripture or Christian fellowship is extremely limited. SIM’s ministries aim to bridge this gap through relationship-building, practical service and gospel witness.

Please pray

  • For partnerships with local believers to create captivating evangelistic resources for Senegalese internet users
  • For capacity to follow up with those who respond to online content
  • For opportunities to share Christ through teaching, training and medical ministries
  • For faithful teaching of both adults and youth in local churches, particularly in Wolof
  • For the Pastors’ Book Set project: distribution of books at a conference in February
  • For more long-term workers, especially for the youth training and English teaching centre
