SIM Liberia’s ministry ELWA Radio marked its 70th anniversary with a celebration at its compound in Paynesville City, a suburb east of Monrovia (the capital of Liberia).
With God having called a group of young people from the US to Liberia, the Eternal Love Winning Africa (ELWA) Radio station was established on January, 18 1954 in Monrovia. It became the first Christian broadcasting ministry in Africa, and grew to share the gospel throughout West and North Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
The Liberian Observer have reported on ELWA Radio’s anniversary event (read here). In the article, SIM Liberia’s Country Director Nicolas Piaget and ELWA Radio Manager Pastor Perry Saydee also reflect on this important milestone, highlighting the station’s Christian mission in areas such as discipleship and healthcare. ELWA Radio continues to serve listeners across the nation and plan to expand their facilities so they can broadcast to countries beyond Liberia’s borders.

Please pray
- Give thanks to God for 70 years of ELWA Radio’s gospel ministry in a region where many people still do not know his good news.
- For renewed vision and energy in the ELWA ministries, that they may continue to represent Jesus in the community through good works and faithfully teaching the word and ways of God.
- For practical needs and logistics for equipping the radio studios and workplace, and expanding the reach of the station.
