How can my church get involved in mission work?

Could God be leading your church to inspire others into mission? Be part of the story God is writing around the world, by sending or supporting.

Why mission matters for churches

Mission isn’t just something for individuals, it’s for the whole church. Jesus calls us to make disciples of all nations, and that begins with prayer.

By engaging in mission, your church extends its ministry far beyond its walls. It joins in God’s global mission, sharing the gospel with the nations.

How can my church get involved in mission?

Prayer is right at the heart of mission. One of the most important ways your church can get involved is by committing to pray regularly, for mission workers and for communities that have yet to hear the good news of Jesus.

Start by including mission in your Sunday services and prayer meetings. You could also set up prayer groups or organise events that focus on specific regions or individuals serving overseas. Regular updates help people pray more specifically and meaningfully.

Our website is a great place to begin. You’ll find a prayer guide to help you pray for different countries each day, along with inspiring stories from mission workers around the world. We’d love your church to join us in prayerful support of God’s global work.

My family was very blessed by a very proactive sending church, who took their role seriously in supporting us both financially and in prayer

Ways your church can play a part

Pray for mission

Send and support mission workers

Your church can play a powerful role by identifying and equipping people who feel called to cross-cultural ministry. This might be individuals or families who are ready to say “yes” to God’s leading.

Sending doesn’t end with a commissioning service. Mission workers need ongoing prayer, financial support, and emotional encouragement. Be intentional about staying in touch. Appoint someone to be a link between the church and each worker, and keep the whole congregation involved through updates, prayer letters, video chats and care packages.

When churches stay connected, mission workers don’t feel forgotten, they feel like they’re still part of the family.
