Prangs freedom in the Holy Spirit

Thailand in East Asia

The spiritual world was always real for Prang. But it was the world of dark, evil spirits.

Prang’s mother was a medium who communicated regularly with an ungodly spirit. “When my mother prayed she could sense the spirit surrounding her,” Prang recalls. “My mother knew something in the darkness was trying to tighten its grip on her. And the longer she worked for the spirit, the more afraid she became.”

That terror spread to Prang’s entire family. “Everyone in my family was very fearful, and we all suffered because of these spirits,” she says. “Our family had no peace.”

Prang’s escape from the darkness came through Simon, her Christian employer, who demonstrated his strong faith even through severe trials. “I saw a wonderful thing in Simon’s life,” she remembers. “I became a Christian because I saw how Simon believed in God during his time of trouble.”

Now Prang works with SIM missionaries Jonathan and Genine Thomas, who are guiding and encouraging her in her new faith. With the support and prayers of friends like you, they are planting a church so that more Thai people will experience the freedom in Jesus Christ that Prang has.

Several members of Prang’s family have also become Christians. She’s praying for the others, who shun Prang because of her faith yet still struggle with evil spirits. “I want to tell my family that my life has gotten better since knowing God,” she says. “I want my family to see that I have a great God in my life. I have seen the power of God at work.”

In Thailand, where Prang lives, it typically takes years of witnessing and prayer to reach people with the gospel. Missionaries like Jonathan and Genine know they must begin by building relationships of trust. Then they must be resilient — and persistent and dedicated.

It’s all worthwhile when they see precious lives delivered from darkness. By supporting SIM’s work in this region, you’re enabling more people like Prang to find saving faith in Jesus. Your gifts are bearing fruit!

Pray for:

• God’s continued protection for Prang and her family.

• deliverance for Prang’s family members who haven’t yet come to faith.

• continued strength and support for SIM missionaries in Thailand like Jonathan and Genine.

Great news for Good Kids

An hour’s drive out from the city of Chiang Mai, behind a few narrow, winding country roads lined with rice paddies, the Good Kids Preschool is tucked away. It is a quiet morning in the village, but the schoolyard is alive with noise and movement. The school seems like any other at first glance: children running haphazardly to and fro and playing before school starts.

Far: the tale of a former Buddhist

Thailand has a long history with Buddhism. It is thought to have entered the culture long before there was even such a place as Thailand - during the third century BC, when a famous Indian emperor named Asoka was sending Buddhist missionaries into many parts of Asia. It became the official state religion in the thirteen hundreds during the kingdom of Sukkothai.
