Youth Ministry El Sendero

Young Jesus followers can have a powerful influence as they carry the message of Jesus Christ. Our challenge is to reach young people between 15 and 25 years of age in creative ways through biblical reflection, sports and arts. We work in schools and universities, and we offer various activities in order to build young disciples of Christ who model a holistic, Christ-centred life in their communities.

About Trauma Healing

The wounds of trauma are apparent in families, communities, and nations around the world. This includes trauma created by wars, conflict between people groups, civil disturbances, crimes, natural disasters, and epidemics.

SIM Trauma Healing is a church- and community-based outreach that equips believers with Bible-based and mental health principles to care for victims of trauma in their communities. Our vision is to overcome gospel-barriers created by trauma through biblical, compassionate trauma care and to see every person experience healing in the Lord Jesus Christ. Compelled by God’s great love and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we seek to equip the church to contend with brokenness and to proclaim the crucified and risen Christ.

Trauma Healing’s first lessons were drafted in 2001 by SIL members, mental health professionals, Bible translators, Scripture engagement consultants, and church leaders from war zones across Africa. Now, they have spread to every continent and have been translated into many languages.

In 2014, SIM members were trained in Trauma Healing and the lessons were implemented among the South Sudanese refugees in Kenya. This was soon followed by the training of leaders in Liberia in response to the spiritual and psycho-social crisis after the Ebola outbreak. God is using this ministry to engage people with the gospel in deeply meaningful ways.

SIM is a member of the Trauma Healing Institute Alliance, a group of organisations that is deeply committed to healing the wounds of trauma and working collaboratively through coordinated activities and shared resources.

Resources

Come and serve

Many people want to help those who are hurting. SIM uses Trauma Healing Institute (THI)’s model that applies scripture and mental health principles to spiritual and emotional wounds. SIM is looking for facilitators to lead healing groups and train others around the world. Healing groups help people find healing for heart wounds, engage with scripture and become resilient. These groups meet in several sequences and locations to accommodate the attendees needs.

Our lessons address scriptural examples of suffering and questions that arise from various forms of trauma. Topical lessons include:

• Domestic abuse

• Suicide

• Addiction

• HIV and AIDS related effects

• Abortion

• Care for caregivers

• Childhood trauma

Facilitators will learn how to guide healing groups, create safe places for people to talk and equip church leaders to help their members. The primary resource for training is Healing the Wounds of Trauma: How the Church Can Help.

If you are interested in learning more about trauma healing or becoming trained as a facilitator, contact us today.

Pray with us

By prayer is SIM’s motto because it is truly by prayer that we praise God, seek his direction, request resources, and call upon the Holy Spirit to empower our ministries. By prayer is a call to action emphasizing important work to be done. We must intercede for those living outside of a saving relationship with Jesus, many of whom have never heard his name.

Please join us in praying for the following four things:

prayers

1

Pray that the Lord will raise up Trauma Healing Facilitators that are needed for the ministry.

2

Pray that the Lord will raise the resources needed, both financial and otherwise.

3

Pray that we will stay in step with Jesus all the way, led by his Holy Spirit and guided by his Word and his love for all people.

4

Pray that broken and wounded hearts will be healed through the ministry of Trauma Healing as people are pointed to Christ.

Zion Evangelical Bible Schools (ZEBS) Lesotho

The aspiration of the Zion Evangelical Bible Schools (ZEBS) is to maintain and build strong contacts in South Africa, specifically in the District of Leribe, where more than 50 Ama-Zioni church leaders have expressed a desire to study God’s Word. Pray for a full-time teaching missionary to be sent to Lesotho, to help establish ZEBS in the District and beyond.

This is an exciting open-door ministry, where God has gone ahead to touch the hearts of a syncretistic yet religious and numerous group of people, residing in an extremely remote area of Southern Africa. To learn more about how we are partnering to reach the Ama-Zioni of Southern Africa, please see the Zion Evengelical Movement of Africa (ZEMA) website: www.zema.org

Youth Workers Toolkit

SIM Kenya is preparing a training book set to equip youth leaders across East Africa to reach young people more effectively. The Youth Workers Toolkit (YWT) books and other materials will be distributed throughout Kenya and Uganda in conjunction with three-day conferences. The conferences will feature topics relevant to youth ministry. Young people under the age of 25 compose more than 60 percent of both Kenya and Uganda. Like many of their counterparts globally, these young people are leaving the church. This project is one way to counteract that trend. We believe the books and resources carefully chosen for this curriculum will enable youth leaders to equip young people in the areas of spiritual formation, peer relationships and evangelism.

Youth Ministry

Ministries among teenagers are not very common in Burkina, despite the fact that they need to hear about Jesus in a personal way that will lead them to accept Him as their Savior and Lord. CDR (Culture de Royaume), literally “Culture of the Kingdom," is an SIM ministry gathering young people from the surrounding churches of Mahadaga, to encourage them to follow Christ and be witnesses in their community. This is what Yubéli, who founded CDR, says:

'Our vision is to see mature young people know God and live according to biblical principles. Our goal is also discipleship; training youth so that one day they can also train others and pass on what they have received. We want to see young people who make a difference in their schools, homes, community, etc.; who are obviously different, and who can impact and influence others because of this.'

West Africans for Global Missions

The West Africa sending office (WAO) located in Cote d’Ivoire has the responsibility to help send West Africans who have felt the call of God to serve cross culturally. WAO is blessed with missionaries across the world serving in various capacities and this has given birth to a new project called West Africans for Global Missions (WAGloM).

The project -WAGloM is designed to encourage more West Africans to serve in global missions. We believe the work of missionaries thrive when churches and individuals partner with them in fulfilling their ministry. It is in this vein that we invite you to come and join as a partner for this project.

Global Missions requires sacrifices of various forms and we desire that our ministry teams live out the gospel where Christ is least known through your support. There are many difficulties in raising 100% support, so our prayer is that your contributions will free our workers and teams to fulfil the mission and vision God has given to the church, to reach those living and dying without Christ in communities where He is least known.

Funds coming into this project will support WAO missionaries based upon current needs whiles distribution of funds will be done dilligenlty through a three member committee.

It is our prayer that your support will open a door for more West Africans to engage in global missions. We hope your donation will make this project- West Africans for Global Missions (WAGloM)-Project 95379 worth pursuing.

May the Spirit of God guide you to give as you can!

Well Drilling

Friends in Action International has a partnership with SIM Burkina Faso/ Mali to drill wells in these countries’ villages. As a pastor who received a well in his village said, 'You cannot preach the gospel when people are preoccupied to know whether or not they will have water and if it will be clean or not.' As Jesus gave his life freely so that we can have it in abundance, and as He is the Living Water, Water for Burkina (the partnership between FiA and SIM BF) drills the wells free of charge for the villages, to show them the ultimate Gift of God.
