Our hearts are heavy for Haiti in the wake of the earthquake on 14 August 2021. Please join us in prayer for the nation and people affected.

Loved ones of those who lost their lives

Pray for the families and friends of those who passed away during the earthquake and the following days. Ask God to comfort them as they mourn as only he can.

“The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.” (Job 5:11)

Those missing or injured and their loved ones

Pray for those who await news of those missing in the fallout of the earthquake. Pray also for the thousands injured to heal and get the medical help they need.

"He heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)

Search and rescue efforts

Pray for search and rescue teams to locate missing people who may be trapped in and around buildings and rubble. Pray they can make up for time lost in the wake of Tropical Storm Grace.

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:13-14)

Relief efforts

Pray for humanitarian organisations and relief projects to offer an abundance of aid and resources in an orderly way to the many struggling. Ask the Lord to instil stamina and endurance in relief teams.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29)

All who have lost homes and livelihood

Pray for the large group of people whose homes are destroyed. Ask God to protect the now homeless from the heat and the elements, as they seek shelter. Pray also for those whose livelihoods have also been ruined, that they can continue to care for and feed their families.

“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

Re-traumatised people

Pray for Haitians who lived through the 2010 earthquake and are re-traumatised. Pray that mental health support would be available with relief efforts and that God would hear the cries of the distressed as they process their pain.

“I will never leave you or forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

Local church

Pray for local believers in Haiti, as they navigate loss and damage in their own lives and reach out to their neighbours. Ask the Holy Spirit to be near to them in their grief and to fill them with supernatural hope.

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13)

*Note: SIM is not present in Haiti, but we are mindful of those suffering as well as our brothers and sisters in Christ there.
