A noble job: Engaging the universities

By Brian Yung | Mongolia in Pacific Asia

Engaging the Universities is reaching students and faculty around the world to share God’s love with them.

Misheel is a professor and SIM worker in Mongolia.

While open expressions of faith are banned, she’s building friendships with her students in class and sharing God’s love outside the classroom.

Misheel says: “I really love my students. When I go to my classroom, when I look at my students, it just gives me joy and peace and excitement.

“When I got here for the first time, it was my first time experiencing teaching. I wasn't really sure what I was going to do. The students are from different parts of the world. And when I looked at them, I was just nervous and scared. I don’t have the courage to face them, and I don't know what I'm going to say in front of them.

“It was really difficult, but then as the time went by, second semester, third semester — and now this is my fourth year teaching — I would say I am growing. And I learned through my experience how to be an effective teacher.

“The spiritual life in the university, I would say, is something fragile. So, it's a secular university. Outsiders see it as secular. But inside, as teachers and believers, we try to maintain the spirituality inside the campus.

“On Sundays, we gather together, and we worship together with students and teachers. We have this Bible reading and prayer going on. We have open fellowship. And so, this is something through which we really could connect with the students and teachers. And through this open fellowship, we can also invite other teachers and other students. Some students are really growing through this activity — and even some teachers like what we are doing on this campus.

"... There is a hope that they will know the truth and that the truth will set them free."

“In the future, I would say there is a chance, there is a hope, that they will know the truth and that the truth will set them free. So, whether they accept the Lord Jesus personally or not, there is a hope that they will understand, and they will know who Jesus is. And one day or the other day, they will hear the good news.

“It's a very noble job I would say, and this is the place where God called me to. And I’m really enjoying my time here.”
