Serving in South Africa
From: United States of America
Who we are:We attended a small christian university and it was there that we were both introduced to social justice and began to feel a desire to serve overseas in some way. It was also there that we developed our relationship after learning that our passions, goals, and desire to serve cross-culturally aligned. However, it wasn't until after we were married that we felt God was leading us to missions. After a few years of marriage and preparation, we joined SIM and felt the call to serve in South Africa at an orphanage called Lily of the Valley.
What we do:Lily of the Valley is a children's village that cares for approximately 120 children, infants through 19 years of age, who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Lily of the Valley not only promotes the physical, mental, and spiritual welfare of these children; it also serves the surrounding community of Mophela through medical, educational, and agricultural ministries.
South Africa has been hit hardest by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It has the highest number of people infected with HIV/AIDS in the world and because of this, it is estimated that there are 1.9 million orphans throughout South Africa. It goes without saying that there is a great need for orphan care. We will join Lily as assistant village managers, helping with daily administration of the village and care for the children. Simply put, our mission is to love and care for these children as well as serve the people of Mophela with the love of Christ.
We are excited to be a part of strengthening God's church around the world and invite you to be our partner in this ministry.
