Daniel Shorten
Serving in Kenya
From: Canada

Who I am:

Born and raised and in Alberta, Canada, I grew up knowing God, was taught to love music, discovered a passion for art and literature, and was trained to work with computers.

I was given the opportunity to spend two weeks in Kenya in 2008 with A Better World Canada; I visited projects across the country and really enjoyed my introduction to the country and the people.

Almost four years later, I'm pursuing an opportunity to go back to Kenya for a longer stay, and hoping to contribute my skills and abilities to projects that will have a lasting, positive impact on Kenyans and their country.

What I do:

My primary ministry will be in Nairobi, working with a team of people—including Kenyans and other missionaries, programmers and healthcare experts—to design, implement, and deploy a high-quality hospital management and information system. This system will be both adequate and affordable for low-resource African hospitals, and will help provide better care for patients as well as more efficient management of healthcare resources.

I will also be involved in some form of church ministry or community outreach in Nairobi to supplement my technical work with more relationship-focused activities.
