The Arts Department of the participating university consists of over 250 students. Many of those students are from poor families and minority groups within the local province. After talking to a number of these students, SIM workers decided that they would provide a series of art exhibits where students would have an opportunity to showcase their work. This will also be an opportunity for five or six of those who participate to receive tuition scholarships which will lighten the burden as they continue their education.
Why an art exhibition project?
- To provide five or six tuition scholarships for the most needy art students.
- To show that foreign workers are willing to invest time and effort in the school and to be a part of the school community. This will be key in providing more visas for future workers for the art department.
- It gives a forum for fellow art students to display their work. It is our hope that this exhibition will have a great impact on the students and encourage more of them to exhibit their art.
- To be able to continue future ministry at this university.
The first of these exhibits is scheduled to take place this fall, with two more events due to follow in 2010.
