Spring of Life Egbe (96407)
HIV testing

The Spring of Life Center in Egbe is offering a Christian response to HIV and AIDS. Working in partnership with the churches and the ECWA Hospital of Egbe, the center presently provides voluntary counseling and testing for HIV and AIDS and a home based care program.

Spring of Life Egbe is the second of such centers in Nigeria—the first Spring of Life Center was started at ECWA’s Evangel Hospital in Jos in 1997.

Spring of Life’s ministry is an important means of touching lives with Jesus’ love in a country where the prevalence of HIV and AIDS is 3.9%, according to UNAIDS. The prevalence in Kogi state, where Egbe is located, is 5.5% according to the 2006 statistics of the Nigerian National Action Committee on AIDS.

Ministries Responding to HIV and AIDS

Spring of Life offers voluntary counseling and testing at the centre in Egbe and in village outreaches. For those infected with HIV, follow-up counseling continues after they have been discharged from hospital.

Under the Home-Based Care program, trained volunteers come and keep the discharged patients "comfortable." They also help educate and model some basic caring practices. The volunteers encourage the caregivers to care for their loved ones without fear by taking a few simple precautions.

Spring of Life Egbe also plans to hold a Support Club for those with HIV and AIDS. It will be a forum for learning to live positively with the HIV virus. The activities include testimonies, sharing, praying and singing together, health seminars, income generation talks and advocacy.

Pray

  • That our Heavenly Father would move Christians in Egbe to treat persons affected by HIV and AIDS with compassion and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • That God would raise up local people to serve and be stakeholders in this vital ministry.

  • USD $24 will fund one year of monthly home-based care visits to one client.
  • USD $90 will fund one village outreach.
  • USD $600 will provide a motorcycle for the project, enabling volunteers to make their visits more effectively.
