Zimbabwe Famine Relief (96388)

The people of Zimbabwe are facing a serious food shortage.

Very little food has been produced in Zimbabwe since 2000. Land reforms and recurrent droughts have crippled production. Astronomical inflation has put the cost of groceries out of reach for the underprivileged, and rampant unemployment has left many unable to provide for their families.

Not surprisingly, the young, the sick, and the elderly are most at risk. Some are already suffering from malnutrition, and even dying prematurely.

To help alleviate the suffering, SIM is responding with a large-scale relief effort to assist 32,750 people living in one hard-hit region of the country. This effort will provide the food they need to survive for the next year while also helping families increase their future food production.

SIM has reliable partners in Zimbabwe through whom we can work. We are also partnering with other caring organizations to feed hungry people. SIM will purchase and import food that will be distributed by church volunteers.

This project will also strengthen the efforts of our HOPE for AIDS projects in Zimbabwe, including the Today for Tomorrow program, home-based care, and orphan and vulnerable children ministries. The people being cared for through these programs will be recipients of food aid.

Pray

  • For sick people, those living with HIV, and the elderly to be strengthened by good nutrition..
  • For malnutrition to end among the people this project helps.
  • For many people to understand the love of God because of this compassionate care.
