In Africa, a building is a symbol. Much like the clerical collar of an ordained pastor, a symbol represents Christ to the people. In the same way, a church building represents Christ's presence in a village or town. A church building is a vital part of planting a church in a land where its people find great meaning in symbols.

A mosque in a Ghanaian village |
|
It seems that both Mormons and Muslims have a good understanding of what it means to have a church building. The Mormons are buying up large tracts of prime land. Mosques are being built in every small town on the main roads to show the presence of Islam. It does not matter that only two or three come to pray at that mosque. The important thing is that a presence is established. The structure of the mosque tells everyone that Islam is present or in the village.
The Bible Church of Africa, SIM's partner church in Ghana, has recently purchased three blocks of land. The members of the congregations are poised and ready to join in the labor of construction. They just need help from other Christians around the world. This project will provide funds to enable them to purchase the bricks and mortar which say "Christ is present here."
Give
Please prayerfully consider giving to the brothers and sisters of Ghana so that they may show that Jesus at work in their midst. As the church building is raised up, the people will know that Christ is present in their community.
