VCT and More

The Medan ("Saving This Generation") Center provides counseling and testing for HIV. Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) provides people with an opportunity to learn and accept their HIV status in a confidential and supportive environment. It also provides care and education to help prevent transmission of the virus.

The center also facilitates:

  • anti-AIDS youth clubs which focus on behavioral change
  • community-based home care for people living with AIDS
  • Care of orphans and other vulnerable children
  • advocacy for at-risk members of society
  • income-generating activities to help people impoverished by HIV & AIDS
  • programs for prevention of mother-to-child transmission

Finding Hope Despite an HIV Diagnosis

Smiling Ethiopian woman

"Hannah," a commercial sex worker, wanted to commit suicide when she received her HIV positive diagnosis. She came to Meseret, the Income Generating Specialist, in tears. Meseret told Hannah that God loved her, died for her, and wanted to care for her. Hanna prayed and asked God to take care of her life.

Meseret set her up in a small business selling foodstuffs, and took her to a church. The pastor welcomed her, and she became an active part of the congregation. Now she is making a living from her small shop. Her face is no longer tear-stained. It glows with the hope that she has found in Christ. She has told her brother and a friend about Jesus, and they are now following him too.

Prevention One Life at a Time

Man with test tubes

Hannah is just one of many lives transformed through the ministry of the Medan Center. HIV & AIDS has brought misery and death to thousands in the largest city in the Horn of Africa. But currently there are 215,000 people in Addis Ababa benefiting directly and indirectly from the services of the Medan Center.

The staff of Medan have dreams of expanding their services. You, too, can have a part reaching out to the millions affected by HIV in Ethiopia by your prayers and by giving to project ET 92748.
