A Gumuz man telling Bible stories to his own people

An SIM team is working amongst the Gumuz people group in Ethiopia with a ministry of evangelism, literacy and agricultural education. SIM has already hosted a workshop where Gumuz writers, under the guidance of literacy specialists from Literacy & Evangelism International, wrote a 90 lesson primer in Gumuz. It is an ideal tool to teach Gumuz people to read and introduce them to Christ.

We plan to train Christian Gumuz who are literate to teach illiterates. Each person who learns to read will be expected to teach someone else, creating a literacy movement. Meanwhile, Gumuz farmers will learn how field preparation, home gardens, milk production and other improved farming practices can benefit their families. We hope that the power of the gospel, literacy and agricultural training will bring a transformation among the Gumuz!
