Peru Earthquake Relief (91270)
     
  Meeting with pastors to assess earthquake damage  
     
In the wake of a devastating earthquake that shook the south coast of Peru, SIM Peru is partnering with others to provide relief in Jesus' name.

SIM Peru is joining hands with their partner church, the Iglesia Evangélica de Peru (IEP) to help them provide relief to their congregations and their communities.

"Every IEP church in the region is damaged, and it seems that the majority of them will need to be demolished," Helen Heron, SIM Peru's Director, reported.

Working with local pastors in the towns of Chincha and Pisco, SIM Peru will provide:

  • blankets and food for the four churches in Chincha (to be delivered on August 30),
  • one community kitchen supplying two meals a day for the next month in Pisco,
  • 600 Bibles for the churches in Chincha and Pisco, and
  • grief counseling and pastoral care.

While the after-shocks have ended, the loss of loved ones, homes, and neighborhoods has caused deep emotional pain. "People are extremely stressed, traumatized, and mourning," Helen said after visiting Chincha and Pisco last week.

On Saturday, September 1, SIM Peru will offer a counseling seminar for local pastors and their families to minister to their needs and equip them to provide emotional support to their communities. This event will be part of an ongoing program of counseling and care. The IEP churches of Lima are also organizing to provide pastoral support and encouragement by sending their pastors to minister in the region.

  • For God to comfort those who have lost loved-ones and homes.
  • For God to guide the organization of relief.
  • For financial provision to sustain these efforts.
  • For safety in travel for the various groups coming down from Lima to help.
  • For the counseling seminar to be helpful for the pastors and their families.
