Arsenic Alleviation Programme
Career: Development and Relief
Country: Bangladesh Length of Service: Long-Term Priority: Normal PRF Number: 7883 A cup of cold water . . . it sounds so simple, but much of the water in Bangladesh has been contaminated with arsenic. How would you like to provide relief for those whose only source of water causes disease and sickness? God can use you as a coordinator to oversee the Arsenic Alleviation Programme in Kushtia. We recently received approval from the Bangladesh government to continue our Arsenic Alleviation Programme through 2011. This programme has provided an excellent platform in Bangladesh for a legitimate community service, as arsenic contamination of the groundwater is a national health concern. The programme has remained small and administratively manageable to allow time and focus for other ministry activities. We now face an amazing opportunity to expand this programme into the districts of Rajbari and Faridpur, and we need a coordinator to oversee the activities of this general area immediately upon completion of language studies. Technical expertise in arsenic removal is not required for this position. Any technical training required will be provided in-country by the Arsenic Programme Coordinator. However, you will need to be able to deal with a variety of personnel and project issues, such as simple bookkeeping, report writing, employee evaluations, project budgeting, proposal writing, donor relations, employee motivation, government relations, etc. We do not expect that you will already have experience in all of these areas, but the overall position will require a willingness to try in all of these areas. Will you be the person giving a cup of cold, clean water? |
