Teens Embrace Evangelism
22 September 2008
On a summer day in January, a dozen young people paired off and hit the main plaza in Villarica, Paraguay. They were fresh from a two-day evangelism training seminar, in which they had learned to share the Gospel by means of an EvangeCube®. They managed to speak with almost everyone in the park, 20 of whom said they wanted to follow Christ. The young people were hooked! After that, trainers Gina Paone and Kait Cassels took them out every week to evangelize on the streets, followed by debriefing and prayer. The young people experienced amazing results from their evangelistic outreach. When Cesia and Yanice returned to school after the summer break, the teacher asked if anyone would like to report on their holidays. The girls looked at each other as if to say, “What have we got to lose?” and walked to the front of the room. Opening their EvangeCube®, they unfolded it frame by frame to show and tell the good news about Jesus. Then they boldly answered questions from interested students. Passing on the trainingIt was time to encourage them to teach their peers. The opportunity came when a church in Cazaapa, two hours’ drive south, invited Gina to train their young people in evangelism. She took Cesia, Yanice, and one of the young men along to do the teaching. They diligently prepared ahead of time and taught their sessions with confidence. Then they divided their class into teams and went out into the streets. As a result, eight people became followers of Christ. The flame that had been lit in Villarica had now spread to Cazaapa. The experience profoundly affected the young trainers from Villarica. Gina said, “I realized that giving people an opportunity to rise to their potential and be leaders is what missionary life is all about. God showed me the purpose for which he had sent me almost 5,000 miles from home—to see that he is making disciples who are making disciples in Paraguay.” Pray
