Many SIM-related schools are looking ahead to the 2007-2008 school year and are searching for qualified people to fill important teacher vacancies.

Playing a Vital Part in Mission

In Africa, Asia, and South America, SIM-related schools play a vital part in fulfilling the mission of Jesus Christ in the world:

  1. They provide quality Christian education for the children of our missionaries.
  2. They allow missionary parents to continue in vital ministries in places where there are no suitable educational facilities for their children's education.
  3. They give opportunities for local or expatriate children to enroll in the school for a quality Christian education.

John and Nancy DeValve, SIM missionaries serving in rural Niger, have two teenagers enrolled in Sahel Academy in Niamey. Nancy says that the school is a part of their team: "We are in a very vital and strategic church planting ministry, and we consider all the staff at Sahel to be partners in that ministry with us. Without their help ... we would have to leave the field."

Making a Kingdom Impact in Children's Lives

Teachers do more than give math and science lessons; they influence children for eternity. Whether sharing their lives through extracurricular activities or just "being there" in the tough transitions of cross-cultural living, teachers and dorm parents have an important role.

That passion is reflected in our teachers. Charlie and Tami Thorsen, who serve at Carachipampa Christian School (CCS) in Bolivia, have embraced that calling: "We, as teachers at CCS, have the awesome God-given privilege to counsel, minister to, hang out with, pray with, and talk to these young people."

Julie Parker, a middle school teacher at Hillcrest School in Jos, Nigeria, shows passion for her students in her blog: "I am so glad that the Lord has allowed me to fall in love with my students so quickly and so deeply. I look at these faces every day, and my heart is full of joy. I am burded for them—for all they have to face every day and the big decisions they make."
