Tambaya's Thrilling Story
1 March 2006
Tambaya

Just this year, he has come to Dakoro to translate Bible study materials into Fulfulde, as well as write original materials himself. He is very motivated and a blessing to be around. To us, he is the first Wodaabe Christian we know who has truly sought to put God's Word above Fulani traditions. He has not always been appreciated by his relatives because he has come out openly against many of their traditions that conflict with God's Word. But he has a clear testimony.

He has three children: Isaac, Timothy and Tabitha. He broke with all Wodaabe traditions by raising his first-born, Isaac. In Wodaabe tradition, the first-born is raised by grandparents or uncles because it is taboo for his/her parents to talk to him or call him by name. They act almost as if he doesn't exist. But Tambaya understands that he is responsible to nurture his children in the Lord, and he sees nowhere in the Scriptures where first-borns are to be treated the way his tribe treats them. So it is encouraging that they are a family and that Isaac is learning God's Word in his father's household. Dodi, Tambaya's father-in-law, also has a clear testimony.

Tambaya co-teaches with Tim Eckert at week-long Bible schools and preaches occasionally at the Dakoro church.
