Tamajaq People Following Jesus
12 November 2007
Tamajaq man
The Tamajaq are known
as the masked men of the desert

In Maradi, Niger, a visit to a souvenir shop was the catalyst for God to work. As some of her visitors shopped, an SIM missionary struck up a conversation with a local silversmith, a Tamajaq man. She offered to pray for him. He eagerly accepted and gladly expressed an interest in receiving some Christian literature.

The very next day the missionaries' phone rang. The silversmith called to say that ten people had listened to the tape that the missionary couple had given them. They had many questions and asked if he could come by. A few days later several of them saw the JESUS film. Even the local chief saw it, viewing and rewinding it three times.

This happened just a week before the annual Tamajaq Bible camp. Five people went to learn more. They returned excited about all they had learned, asking thoughtful questions, and sharing the message with their friends and neighbors.

Now, there are 27 people who want to follow the way of Jesus! They are meeting with a Tamajaq Christian and the missionary couple to learn more.

Please pray

  • thanking God for answering the prayers of people who have been praying for the Tamajaq for decades.
  • for these Tamajaq peoples' lives to be transformed.
  • for the teachers to have wisdom as they help these new believers to understand the way of Jesus.
  • for protection of this little group.
  • for more of the local Tamajaq to begin to follow the "Jesus way."
