Sudanese Await the Results of Their Election
26 April 2010
UpdateResults reported by BBC News on 26 May 2010 Please continue to pray for this situation in the coming weeks. Pray with us that NCP leader and incumbent president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir will be drawn to the Lord through God's Holy Spirit. Pray that the church of Jesus Christ in Sudan would be a solid and godly presence during these historic days. 21 April 2010 The official results of the elections were originally due Tuesday, April 20, 2010, but now there are reports that there is no official date set. This is Sudan's first multi-party election since 1986. The polling proceeded peacefully, however many monitoring groups expressed concern over many “irregularities.” Many parties didn't participate: the Umma Party, Sudan Communist Party, Umma Reform and Renewal Party (URRP) boycotted the elections days before they were due to start saying the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) were all doubted voting would be free and fair. Up until now, only one candidate has refused to accept his defeat. Of course there are rumors of vote rigging and irregularity, yet it is encouraging to many that the election has happened. The Lord can intervene. Pray with us that NCP leader and incumbent president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir will be drawn to the Lord through God's Holy Spirit. Pray that the church of Jesus Christ in Sudan would be a solid and godly presence during these historic days. |
