SIM Works With South African Partners to Provide Relief for Zimbabweans
9 January 2009
Working in partnership with Multi Ministries and the Central Methodist Church of Johannesburg, SIM has been able to distribute a bulk consignment of SEJO (Sorghum-based high nutrition porridge meal) to Zimbabweans gathered in refugee camps in central Johannesburg and Musina, South Africa, a town on the border with Zimbabwe where thousands have fled. We are still looking for a way to distribute in Zimbabwe, but for now, we are helping where we can. The team plans to distribute five more shipments of high-nutrition meals over the next two to three months, as well as the distribution of seed, fertilizer, and Bibles. SIM's Deputy International Director of East and Southern Africa, Dave Bremner, explains some of the details surrounding the process of trying to deliver food into Zimbabwe, and what is being done now in South Africa for the Zimbabwean refugees, in his interview with Ruth Kramer of Mission Network News on 8 January 2009.
