SIM Uruguay Vision Seeks to Build Strong Church
30 April 2007
God has given SIM a bold vision to strengthen the church in Uruguay. The least evangelical country in South America, Uruguay is a secular society with a strong European influence. The population is skeptical and distrustful of organized religion. Although there is a small local church, it is divided along denominational lines, and its influence in society is limited. SIM Uruguay works in roles that support local churches of many denominations, helping them to achieve the unity that should be the hallmark of Christ’s church body. This work has begun to make an impact, but there are still two key components needed to help make this vision a reality. A Training Center to Equip the Church The first component is still in the construction phase. The Montevideo Ministry Training Center will serve Christian groups by giving them a place to be refreshed and challenged by God’s Word.
Beginning in June 2007, several work teams will converge on the property to help with construction. By December 2007 the center will be a gathering place for small retreats and training weekends. Committed People to Serve the Church The second key component is people. Currently the "team" in Uruguay is comprised of one committed couple. But SIM's goal to strengthen the church in Uruguay cannot be accomplished by them alone. Historically, Uruguay is a very difficult field for missionaries. The established church desperately needs well-established, strong, and healthy ministries.
