Radio Hope Announcers Reach Loja's Youth
by Christine Platt, Ecuador

Ramiro’s Journey to FaithRamiro knows what it is like to struggle. Two years ago, he had many problems. He was depressed and seeing a psychiatrist. He prayed to God for help, but it seemed that God wasn’t answering his prayers. One night Ramiro found Radio Hope. Listening to the program, he understood why God hadn’t yet answered his prayers. He realised that he needed to turn from the wrong things he was doing and ask Jesus for forgiveness. From that moment on, Ramiro’s life began to change for the better. He listened to the radio a lot—it not only taught him about Christ, it helped him to grow in his new faith. Ramiro started to attend a church where few people were committed to knowing Christ. Slowly he realised that he needed the encouragement of others who had given their lives to Jesus. He met a friend who invited him to his small group Bible study and then to church. Making an Impact at Radio HopeRamiro had worked in radio before and wanted to work for the station that had taught him about Christ. He approached Radio Hope just when they were looking for another announcer. After much prayer, Ramiro brought along his friend Diego, and together they have been producing a daily youth program. “Ciudad en Onda” which roughly translates to “Movement of the City,” is a fun program with lots of Christian music. They also discuss controversial news from a Christian perspective, interview local celebrities about culture, and interview high school students and incorporate their answers into programs. Recently they’ve produced shows about gangs and machismo. One young man named George has come to know Christ through the program. Several churches have also said that people have come to church because of hearing the program. Both Diego and Ramiro are quite young, but God is using them to reach the youth of Loja. Their pastor listens to the program and meets with them weekly. He helps ensure that their content is biblical and helpful. Thanks to his help, Ramiro and Diego are continuing to grow in their faith and ministry. < |
