and AIDS in South Africa

The Genesis Trust (Ugu AIDS Alliance) has received a full grant from the United States Government's President's Emergency Plan for Funding AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). This will allow them to continue their AIDS relief work through 2009. The Genesis Trust was one of only two organizations in South Africa to receive a PEPFAR Grant.

Project Positive Ray, a SIM HOPE for AIDS partner project, is a member of this trust. This funding will fully supply all medical and health-related aspects of their project, such as voluntary counseling and testing, anti-retroviral treatment, home-based care, and community education.

Positive Ray is a church-based project founded to address the AIDS pandemic by presenting factual information based on the ABC formula:

  • Abstinence,
  • Being faithful and
  • Commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and to your partner.

The Positive Ray staff are thanking God for His provision and praying for God to provide funding to help them continue the spiritual aspects of their work, such as Bible studies, Bible distribution, evangelism, and leadership training.

The project manager writes, "We do not want to lose our focus because we believe this is what God has called us to do. We are appealing to our friends and colleagues to continue to partner with us and support the spiritual component of our work."
