Pray for Peace in Sudan
by Chris Crowder, SIM Sudan Director
4 March 2009

Today is a critical day in Sudanese history. For the first time, a sitting head of state has been indicted by the International Criminal Court. Splashed all over the news is the fact that the ICC issued arrest warrants today for the Sudanese president, Omar Al-Bashir.

The complexity of politics in Sudan defies all who might predict what will happen as a result of today's news. There are many possible outcomes ranging from widespread destabilization to a virtual non-event.

While there are some reports of minor demonstrations, SIM personnel in all parts of Sudan are all safe and accounted for. Please join with us in interceding for "al-salaam al-Sudan" (the peace of Sudan).

Please pray specifically:

  • For the peace and worship of God in Sudan.
  • That God would calm tempers and prevent further incidents. Ask the Lord to give safety and wisdom to all foreigners living and working in Sudan.
  • For SIM's ability to send Gospel workers.
  • For our Rebuilding Southern Sudan: Church & Nation ministries. Some education programs have been interrupted by localized tribal fighting.
  • For the safety and effectiveness of three missionaries in Malakal, who persevered through serious fighting last week.
  • Thank the Lord for 30 recent graduates of the Basic Education Learning Centers (BELC) and for the next four graduating BELC classes who will sit for exams soon.
  • That God would bring glory to himself on this historic day in Sudanese history.
