Pastors’ Book Set Conferences Equipping and Uniting Churches in Malawi

Halfway through SIM Malawi’s series of Pastor’s Book Set conferences, 500 Malawian pastors have already been encouraged and motivated in their ministries. And it’s expected that June will see another 1500 church leaders benefit from the weeklong conferences, put on by SIM and the Evangelical Association of Malawi. Three hundred and fifty pastors spent the last week of May crowded into a hall in the northern Malawi town of Mzuzu, eager to not only hear what speakers from Malawi and beyond would share with them about leading the church in Malawi today, but also to network with local pastors from a variety of denominations. “It was wonderful,“ said Evangelist Mulungu. “We had an opportunity to make friends with pastors of other churches serving in different parts and discuss our ministries.” Such interaction is uncommon in a country where church divisions can be strong. But unity in Christ was not only one of the seminars presented – it was something pastors were able to experience firsthand.
“We have enjoyed this fellowship very much,” added Pastor Mark Mphaka. “It has given us time to know each other. I wish it were possible to have an occasion like this every year.” Pastors left the five-day conference with a new network of peer support and a library of 65 books, ranging in topics from preaching, HIV and AIDS, Bible resources, and counseling. Malawi’s final Pastors’ Book Set conference will be held in Blantyre 23-27 June. Each conference is expected to attract 700 pastors from churches and ministries throughout the country.
