The next chapter in Nigerian mission history is unfolding. The Nigeria Evangelical Missions Association (NEMA) has launched a vision to send 50,000 missionaries in the next 15 years. These missionaries will be sent to the North of Nigeria and 45 other countries between Nigeria and the Middle East.

Vision 50:15 is a bold strategy for a tenfold increase in the current number of Nigerian missionaries. It is partly in response to the vision and faith of the Chinese Church's "Back to Jerusalem" movement. At the last Nigeria Mission Executive Congress, SIM worker Bill Ardill challenged the church and mission agencies of Nigeria to meet the Chinese missionaries in Jerusalem.

Launching the Vision Vision 50:15 was shared and affirmed by NEMA at the third Nigeria Missions Executive Congress at its headquarters near Jos. Part of the program included dedicating the new Nigeria Missions Centre for Global Harvest.

At the dedication service, Rev. Ben Kwashi, Anglican Bishop of Jos, affirmed the vision, saying that the center of missions for the world has shifted to Nigeria.

NEMA has launched nine working task forces to face the challenge of 50:15. These groups will focus on:

  1. helping church and mission to work together better in Nigeria
  2. getting better research on unreached peoples
  3. reaching the Core North (Operation Samaria) of Nigeria
  4. reaching the tribes around Lake Chad
  5. member care
  6. mobilizing youth and students
  7. tentmaking ministries
  8. missions training
  9. leadership development
Please pray for the Nigerian church as they take on this bold vision to send out many more missionaries.
