Mother-Daughter Relationship Healed
29 September 2011

When Noemí became a teenager she became rebellious and conflicts with her mother got to such a point that she was thinking about leaving home. She felt that her mother did not understand her.

Noemí's mother, a widow since her husband’s death in 2008, has been a faithful listener of Mosoj Chaski Radio for more than five years.

It was during this time that Mosoj Chaski aired a series of programs about teenagers and menopause in women. Silvia, Noemí’s mother, listened with great interest and reflected on what she learnt. It helped her understand the cause of some of the tension between her and her daughter. She began to see that the root of many of their conflicts were due to the stages of life they were both going through.

One weekend Slivia spoke to her daughter and shared what she had learnt from Mosoj Chaski Radio. She was able to explain about how the menopause was affecting her, biblical passages that had challenged her, and what she had learnt about being a teenager. She asked her daughter to forgive her for her attitude. This conversation made quite an impact on Noemi and, a few weeks later, Noemi wrote a letter to her mother asking her mother to forgive her for her attitude as well. She recognised that she should be patient with her mother due to the changes she was undergoing.

Now mother and daughter are living happily together. They have a good relationship. Noemí is involved in her church and her mother is still a faithful listener of Mosoj Chaski Radio. Both are grateful to Mosoj Chaski and those that write programs for the Radio. The programs about teenagers and menopause helped save this mother-daughter relationship.

Background

Mosoj Chaski Radio has been broadcasting Christian programs across Bolivia since 2002, serving the spiritual and social needs of more than two million Quechua people.

Mosoj Chaski radio and related ministries exist to spread the Gospel, uplift the Quechua community through health and educational programming, and strengthen the Quechua church through Bible teaching.

Very little is available in their own language, making the radio a primary source of information. Radio Mosoj Chaski broadcasts entirely in Quechua, and its supplementary literature ministry produces culturally appropriate booklets and Bible study material. Topics also cover issues of public health, nutrition, agriculture, human rights and community development.
