Miguel and the Yuquis

Nearly 20 years ago I left my home in Malaysia to become one of the first missionaries sent out by the SIM East Asia office in Singapore. Now God is giving me the privilege of mobilizing Miguel and other believers into Bolivia’s growing mission movement.

I knew Miguel Flores as a small boy many years ago, but then our paths parted. I discipled his brother, Julio César, who wanted to serve the Lord as a missionary but died before he could do so. Recently Miguel gave up his career and came to the Cross-Cultural Training Center in Cochabamba to prepare for missionary service. While he was studying, he became involved in the church where I’ve been serving; and the people in that young church grew to love him.

When God called him to become a cross-cultural missionary among a very neglected people group called the Yuqui, the church decided to contribute part of his missionary support-—their first-ever mission involvement. Soon they decided to support a Bolivian woman who is working in one of the creative access nations, and then it was only natural that they would want to hold their first-ever mission conference.

Gradually, God’s church in Bolivia is realizing the need to send and give, not only to receive. God is opening doors for me to work with many churches for mission awareness. Two years ago the “Sebastian Pagador” Church sent a gifted man as their missionary to Paraguay. Now the pastor has moved to a new church, and he has asked me to help him get this new church involved in mission.

Whether to a neighboring country or halfway around the world, by faith I see many Bolivians sent out by their churches to bring people to Christ and extend His kingdom. This is the vision that Miguel and I share with thousands of Bolivian Christians.
