Kaffrine Famine Relief Project Fully Funded
8 July 2008
Two men carry a bag of grain

Despite rising grain prices and an unfavorable exchange rate, the Kaffrine Famine Relief project will still be able to do two complete food distributions. This project has been fully funded, thanks to the generosity of many donors.

Corey Garret reported on the project blog that "the believers have been involved in the distributions, helping and working in selfless ways. They have reported that they have started sensing greater respect and acceptance."

One church member, whose village was being served by World Vision and not the SIM relief, helped in several of the villages. His wife, who still follows the majority religion, has started attending worship meetings with him.

Another Christian has been approached by a religious leader in his community wanting to know more about Jesus. Several have shown interest in learning more about what the Q'uran says about Jesus.

The price of rice has escalated, and it has been nearly impossible to find in Senegal lately. The second distribution, scheduled to begin soon, will be millet instead of rice. Each family will receive:

  • 100 kilograms of millet to eat,
  • enough improved bean seed for 1/2 hectare—ready to eat in 45 days
  • and enough improved millet seed for about an hectare of millet.

Pray

  • that God will continue to use the famine relief to arouse interest in Jesus.
  • for the believers who are enjoying greater respect to have boldness to tell people about their relationship with Christ.
