I Was Addicted: Bayarsaikhan's Story
by JCS, SIM's partner ministry in Mongolia

Bayarsaikhan

I was addicted to Alcohol for 30 years, not just my body, but it tied up my whole person. I was totally unmanageable, lost the ability to work and responsibility for my family and relationships. Of course, my wife and four children suffered the most from my problem. I thought my life was lost and had ended.

However, 3 years ago my wife took me to an alcohol treatment program and I started to realize my mess up and admitted I needed help. After the treatment I started attending an AA group, where I was introduced to a Higher Power. I started to think that there might be a God who can help me, but AA didn't help me to find GOD.

Meanwhile, I heard there was a Christian recovery group and I met some of the Christian recovering alcoholics who shared their recovery story with me. Two and a half years ago, I was introduced to the Celebrate Recovery group. I was able to stay away from drinking with support of people in the group, and in spite of several slips, I have been recovering ever since.

Bayarsaikhan's family

The 12-step program really helped me and my family to grow as a healthy person and family. My whole family came to the Lord and has experienced restoration of relationships and new joy in the family. Not just myself, but all my family members have grown up in Christ. It is amazing how God can redeem my problem to let us know God and grow in Him.

God has put His heart in our family to help other families who suffer like us. I started a new celebrate recovery group in my church a year ago with my wife and have been privileged to be able to help many individuals and families. I am in the last year of a local bible school. Our vision (my wife and I) is to travel around the countryside and help alcoholics and their families by sharing the goodness of Jesus with them.
