Heavy Rains Leave Bolivian Lowlands Flooded

area following the 2007 floods.

For the second consecutive year, the rainy season in Bolivia has caused widespread, heavy flooding in the lowlands. Across Bolivia, nearly 40,000 people have been left homeless.

Lesley Kayser, an SIM missionary serving in Trinidad, the main city in the Beni region, reports that "The people who suffered last year have now lost their crops again. There are families living in tents on the sides of the roads and in plazas." This year, the flooding is threatening to cut off all major roads to the city.

Last year, in the face of the worst flooding in twenty years, Lesley joined with pastors and leaders of the UCE church, SIM's partner church in Bolivia, to reach out to those affected. Because of the compassionate relief they received, many people began to follow Jesus.

Pray

  • that Christians will show the love Jesus in a very practical way during this difficult time.
  • for the rains to stop.
  • for the waters to recede, and that no more lives will be lost.

Give

If you would like to send help to those suffering, you may send a gift to your local SIM office marked for the Trinidad Emergency Health Project # 091209
