Earthquake: Statement from SIM International Director
by Malcolm McGregor, SIM International Director
10 October 2005 SIM is deeply concerned for survivors of the 8 October earthquake in Pakistan and surrounding countries. As a Christian gospel community, SIM workers are earnestly praying for survivors of all faiths who now begin the journey to recovery. We recognize that this has occurred during the month of Ramadan&mdahs;a month of fasting which is deeply significant on the Muslim calendar. May the God who is familiar with suffering through the death of his Son, Jesus, be a comfort and salvation to those suffering today. All SIM workers in Pakistan and India are safe, as well as those from our partner organizations. Some were living near to the epicenter of the earthquake, but all are accounted for. Our SIM Pakistan director and team are now assessing the situation and developing a response. Over 3 million people have been personally affected and many of these are in areas where SIM already serves. If you would like to give financially towards earthquake relief efforts, this can be done through your local SIM office. May the presence of Christ be seen and felt at this great time of loss.
