Children's Ministry Training Workshops
15 August 2008

Some children live in difficult
circumstances. These training
sessions will equip the church
to share the love of Christ
with them.

Children’s Ministry Champion Hannelore Zimmerman will lead a training workshop for children’s workers in the province of Antabamba, Peru, August 16-17. She and two other children’s workers from Abancay will travel by bus to the Andean province to give the training.

People from four churches in Antabamba will join together for the workshops. The participants are Quechua people who make a meager living by subsistence farming. While they are bilingual in Spanish, they are not used to learning through lectures and written materials. Hannelore said, “We try to find teaching methods that work well.”

The churches do not have Sunday schools or children’s clubs, so this training will equip them to begin to reach out to the children in their areas. “There is very little entertainment for the children, and so it is easy to invite them to Sunday School,” Hannelore said. “Some children live in difficult circumstances as there’s a lot of alcoholism in the area. I would like to see the churches reaching out to the children in their villages letting them know about God’s love and caring for their needs.”

Pray

  • that God will call people who are willing to be trained and to dedicate themselves to reaching out to the children.
  • that the churches in Antabamba will understand the importance of reaching out to the children.d
  • that they will be able to teach effectively, using adequate methods.
  • for a good and growing relationship with the churches, especially with the new children’s workers.
  • for good health and safety in traveling.
  • for the children in Antabamba, that they will hear about God’s love in a way they understand and that they will respond.
